Inverter Smoked

Took my recently purchased 2018 Thor ACE 29.3 out for the weekend to make sure everything was working and noticed the inverter control panel was not working, I went to the battery cabinet and noticed a breaker was tripped so I reset it. Luckily prior to this I pulled the mattress back and opened the space where the electric and the inverter are located just to make sure all was ok, well the panel lit back up and as I was trying to scroll thru I heard a pop and turned around to a huge cloud of white smoke billowing from the inverter!! I shut it off immediately and opened windows and vents to clear the smoke. Not sure what the hell happened but I assume it’s toast. Just don’t want to replace it and happen again. This ever happened to anyone here?! Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

Ok, dont be alarmed, this is just me thinking out loud.
Are you sure we are talking inverter? Not converter?
The inverter is fused between the pos in on the inverter and battery with a t fuse. Generally 250 amps. The fuse should have went first.
Did you do anything, change batteries, connect up something, drill or screw anything in walls?
What breaker tripped? 10 amp 30 amp, 50 amp.
Was the rv hooked up to shore power, on generator, just on battery?
Anything work? Lights in coach?
What is the voltage of the house batteries?

Terry,
It's an inverter. Xantrex pro xm 1000 to be exact. I pulled it out and opened it, a capacitor blew. My thought is it was just it's time to go. I have a hardwired watchdog surge protector/power monitor and there was no surge, spike or any other power event. I have not drilled or mounted anything on the coach. I checked the batteries and the voltage was fine, 120 volt wiring checked out, no shorts, voltage was fine. I ordered a new one and will do a direct replacement. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Sometimes the magic smoke just has to escape.
