No #2 policy. That’s better than the guy using a bucket. If that’s the case. Remove the toilet. Patch the hole. Throw out the sink & shower and turn it into a walk-in closet. I’ve used toilets in campers for almost 37 years. Never had a clog. Worst that ever happened was the valve froze and burst. Bought new toilet for $100. 15 minute install. Kept on going. But I would like a walk-in closet.

That’s why you have an emergency exit window.

Never again will you worry about black streaks from the roof.

I’ll get my coat.

The each his own, But I never understood the reasoning in not using a toilet the way it is intended. ITS A TOILET AND A NORMAL BODILY FUNCTION!!!

Even above tacos, there's the ORIGINAL "flush aid"... they call White Castles "sliders" for a very good reason.

Now... go get a sack of 10, sit down on there and "git er done"! Every journey starts with a first step.

We had friends that would NOT #2. In the middle of the night they would place a plastic bag in the toilet and take the waste the next day to the dumpster. I know....DISGUSTING.

They had a previous RV that someone had always left the black valve open and had the dreaded POOP Pyramid. So their lies the paranoia.

She was at our RV one day and said I need to leave to use the Parks Facilities. My wife told her no problem use ours. The Gal said "are you sure we never #2 in ours". Well the wife later telling me the story said she wished she had just let her leave.

Okay, okay, the #2 policy, of course is like the Pirate Code, more like a guideline. We rarely boondock and of course if we do you do-do what you've got to do-do even if it is a doodoo! Haha. However, we have a handicapped adult daughter who travels with us and we usually request a site near a bathroom and we use it as much as possible, within reason.

The idea to buy just the base is a good one. I saw that and thought it was just the base without the innards. That would save $100. I also like the idea of trying to adjust the set-screw. wouldn't it be great if that worked. I am also going to buy a seal just to have on hand.

Thanks everyone for the advice and the laughs!

That's as bad as not flushing toilet paper, saving it in a bucket!! YUCK!!!
The rv was bought so as to NOT have to use public facilities!
Been rving over 40 years, used the toilet as it was designed by flushing #1 - #2 & tp, never a clog or any other issue. Use plenty of water per flush for #2 (typically hold it open for 5 Mississippis) & only "septic safe" 2 ply paper, expensive rv specific tp is not necessary. And NEVER NEVER EVER leave the black tank valve open when connected to sewer connection, fill & dump as needed followed by a good rinse or 3.
As for the toilet, replace the POS Thetford for a Dometic 310 round bowl with rim flush or a 320 elongated bowl with under the rim flush. The Dometic is a much better toilet with less expensive repair parts that most can be replaced without removing the toilet.

In the winter we would take the toilet out and duct tape the hole. We set a porta potty over the hole and use that, then take the bottom to any bathroom and dump it

Never really had that problem. We dumped at the nearest bathroom and then took it home and finished cleaning it. We always used chemical in it. A person could use something to catch water from the sink and put water in it and shake it and dump it again. That's what we did at home
