shore power battery charging
Can someone please tell me if the house battery AND the chassis battery are charging when plugged into shore power..manual says master battery disconnect switch must be on in order for both to be charged..i assume they mean with the engine running..but what if the generator only is running with the switch on or using shore power only...does the disconnect solenoid only allow shore/generator to charge just the house battery ??
Thanks, Mike M

The disconnect just removes the house battery from the DC Buss, so if the converter is supplying the DC Buss the disconnect switch must not be open to charge the house battery.
The converter should charge both the house and chassis battery when connected to SP or the generator is running.

Is that true? I had problems with my chassis battery running down after a short period of time. I installed a switch on the chassis battery and disconnect it whenever Im not driving it. I'm pretty sure I was plugged in when it ran down. I'm wondering how I could test this. Would there be a higher voltage reading on the battery poles if it's being shared vs not?

Yes, when plugged in the chassis battery should be over 13 volta if being charged by SP.
There have been some reports that some C Classes don't charge the chassis battery through a BIRD or BIM.

My 31W is one that doesn't charge the chassis battery from shore or generator power. According to the email I got from Thor that's correct.

Did Thor mention any methods of addressing this situation?
I can't see any reason to not give ALL of your batteries a charge; when the power is available...

Yeah I thought it was weird too Bob. Since the dash 12V outlet is live all the time, I could plug a battery maintainer into an outlet inside the rv and charge the chassis battery via the 12v outlet.

That is a pretty simple solution: it's just a shame that you've got to do that...
You're already thinking outside the box...

Remember: If its on a Sprinter chassis Mercedes, for whatever reason, doesn't allow the chassis battery to be connected to the coach battery.

Ok, I called Thor and they sent me a copy of the Battery schematic, which I made copies of and still use. Later on, taking advice from this website, I called Thor again and they sent me the water, waste and frame diagrams.
