Surge Protector
Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X versus the Surge Guard 34950, which would be recommended?

I can't speak to their competitor but I use the Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X. It has saved my electrical system on more than one occasion due to low voltage.

Same here, the EMS-PT50X has been excellent.

Progressive unit (50ews) has saved our bacon several times, including one campground that had widely fluctuating voltages.. The PI dropped out @ 9pm and refused to re-connect, so just went to bed early.. next morning PI still would not connect,(voltage from 99v to a high of 138v so fired off the gennie)....Later in the day found out that most of the campers had major issues with their electronics being fried..
Voltage swings were caused by a bad PP&L pole transformer outside of the park..

Personally I sprang for a Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C. Love the inside monitor especially when plugged into a 30 amp pedestal at a state park.

We really like our Progressive Industries. It is an external unit as we didn't know if we had a good spot to hard wire a unit.

Thanks!
I was looking in Camping World's online store: they didn't have it.

Installed the Surge Guard hard wire in ours. We live in South Florida, the constant afternoon thunderstorms cause quite a few issues. The Surge Guard has shut off our coach a few times. At the time I didn't bother to check the code, but the fact it shut off and nothing is damaged inside the coach is enough for me.

Please go straight to their website. Buying from them is a real joy. They're easy to work with and will do everything they can to help you.

I have used a surge protector for 2 years, and the circuit analyzer on it has never indicated a problem at any campground, and it has never shut off power the RV. I was starting to wonder if it's something I even need to bother with, but it sounds like surge protectors have saved several of you guys, so I'll keep using it.

Here's a question. If you hard-wire one into your rig: does that leave your electrical cord in peril?
Wouldn't it be "better" to isolate your complete system; by putting the protector at the end of the cord, and into the Campgrounds plug?

I would rather plug a disposable connector into a possibly iffy socket. If it was arcing I'd rather not damage the plug on the end of the hardwired cord.
