A/C Question

Hello all!

I am looking at a 2015 Thor Vegas 25.1 to buy and the owner tells me the RV A/C will only run using the generator and won't run when plugged up to 120V. Is this true? Doesn't seem right to me-Thanks for the help!

Mmm, sounds fishy to me.
All of my rvs have worked on genny or shore power.
Something is wrong, why, because rv parks, state and county rv parks, ALL have quiet hours.

It needs to be plugged into a 30 amp rv service and not just 120 from a house receptacle.

It's a very minor concern.
Easy remedied.

The A/C should work on genset or shore power. As mentioned above 120v 30A is considered appropriate shore power. However, you can plug the RV into a 120v 15 or 20A outlet and it will run the A/C and not much more. Have the owner take you somewhere where there is a 30a connection and see if it works. A local campground would probably let you try it - offer them $10. Could be just his house wiring can’t handle the coach plugged in.

A/C is a major necessity. As recommended above, take it to a local campground and test it. It should work or there is an electrical issue with the coach. Ask him if it only doesn't work at his house or has he had the issue when plugged in at campgrounds also?

The coach owner has already raised a red flag with the OP. Why trust a verbal answer at this point? Hook up to 30amp service and verify that the A/C does or does not work on shore power. Who knows what mods the owner has made to the coach. In God I trust, all others bring data.

Exactly.
My take is that anything the owner has done can be easily undone, maybe by just flipping a switch, maybe by tightening a nut or even buying a new splice or distribution thingy.
But
The ac works. Unquestionably. The owner knows/tells not why it does or doesn't.
Why it doesn't(if it doesn't) work on shore power is a very minor mystery.

I do have to congratulate the op for finding us prepurchase.

Telephone game - we don't know what the owner actually said and OP has been MIA since he posted the question.

I run the Vegas 24.1 AC without a problem on a 15A circuit when the RV is plugged at home. It hasn't tripped anything but I also don't run it too often. I don't run anything else when the AC is running. I run it sometimes just so it runs
