Hot do we add bleach solution to water tank in Challenger 37FH?

Hot do we add bleach solution to the fresh water tank in Challenger 37FH? I want to be able to sanitize annually without having to use a funnel in a hose at the wet bay.

Thanks!
Keith & Libby

I always add it to the fresh water hose then connect it to the house water valve at the house end. Much easier. I also use a water flow meter that I purchased on Amazon. I know when the tank is about to be full and push water out of the overflow tubes. They are quite accurate.

How do you get the bleach in the hose?

I stick one end of the fresh water hose into the gravity fill port, then string the hose over to the house water faucet. Then measure the bleach into a dedicated measuring cup with a pour spout.

It's easy to carefully pour the bleach into the hose end from the measuring cup... the bonus is you sanitize the fresh water hose at the same time. Just connect the hose to the faucet and turn on the water. The tank is full when water shoots back out of the gravity port.

Yep. That’s the way it’s done. Don’t forget to drain your hot water tank ahead of time so it gets some of the mixture as well. Once full , turn on your pump and open all the valves. I run the about 10 gallons thru everything then just dump the gray tank on the ground.

Just make sure you do this before installing a new filter. Otherwise the chlorine hits the filter before diluting and it will saturate the filter.

Read your manual for the sanitizing process. It is sucked in when the water system valves are set to sanitize and the fresh water inlet screen is reversed.

Again, read the manual because it might teach you something

Use Bacardi 151: it'll make the water taste better, and it could sanitize a Chinese Laboratory

He did not ask for information on how much chlorine to add or how to do the job completely. As stated above, do remove your water filter first, drain the water heater along with the water tank and put the plug in instead of the anode rod. If you have a rod and it has deteriorated, purchase a new rod. Thoroughly flush the tank out to get the debris out of it using a flushing wand. Hook the water hose to the rig and turn your valve to fill the fresh water tank. At the house add the bleach at 1/4, I use 1/3, cup for each 15 gallons of fresh water capacity to that end of the hose. I use a large plastic measuring cup for this. I fill the tank and then use the house water pump to run bleach water through the water lines until you smell the bleach. Do each faucet hot and cold lines. If you have a clothes washer, disconnect the lines and run water through them as well. Let sit at least three hours. I use four hours. Then drain the fresh water tank, water heater, and water filter housing. Fill the water tank with fresh water and run the house pump and flush the system. Install the new water filter and anode rod into the water heater.

My 2 cents.
Add the amount of bleach needed in the hose after the filter. Drain hot water heater.
Dump fw tank. Fill up hot water heater and fw tank. Dive around to agitate water. Run all faucets until I smell bleach. Cold and hot side.
Let sit 24 hours. Do the procedure again without bleach. Drive around flush as needed.
I pour the bleach from bottle to hose, no funnel needed.

Careful on the bleach in the hot water tank!

Our owner's manual explicitly directs us, when sanitizing the system, to bypass the hot water tank as the bleach is corrosive to the water heating system.

Check your manual for instructions specific to your unit.

Another thing to not do but which is recommended by many is to pour bleach into your holding tanks. Besides being corrosive to the seals, the chlorine will kill the helpful bacteria which break down the contents.

The 2022 Challenger 37FH doesn't have a gravity fill port. I wish it did.

We don't have a gravity fill port or a water heater tank. We like the tankless water heater, but wish we had a gravity fill port for the fresh water tank.

The only thing I could find is on the Thor Owners site and it talks about gravity fill port. We don't have one. Is there some other device we have to purchase to siphon bleach into the system?
