Got any creative ideas for getting new AC on roof?
I'm going to pick up a new AC unit tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any creative ideas on how to get it up on the roof.
I was thinking of perhaps just sliding it up a ladder...one guy pulling on a rope hoisting it up (probably me), and another on the ladder pushing it up and making sure it doesn't slide off.

Got a tall tree somewhere you could use a pulley with...raise it up and back under it.

Good ideas...Off the top of my head, I can't think of any trees I could drive under.
I have a backhoe and a kubota...unfortunately they are at my other property of which the road right now isn't RV friendly.
Anyone know how much they weigh...I think they are about 80lbs..is that about right?

The tricky part is...once you reach the top of the ladder is getting it off without damaging the material on the roof.

I exchanged the bedroom AC on my Landmark with a heat pump a few years ago
Used scrap sheets of plywood on the roof areas where I was working and standing, it had the rubber type roof membrane. Also, to land the AC on
Installed it by myself using cribbage

You gave me an idea...I have fairly small but very powerful 12-volt wench (harbor freight) with a long cord for the control. I could connect that up to the ladder and wench it up.
Also the idea of using some scraps of plywood is a god idea.

Or you could carry up a step ladder and throw it on the roof like this guy on you tube,

In 1986 I replaced one. Took a rope and made a harness. Carried it up on my back. Couldn't do it now...

I’d set a long extension ladder up at a serious slope (whatever your ladder can do - the longer the better) and I’d build a simple sled with sides to keep the unit on the sled and the sled on the ladder. The unit is only about 100 lbs and one or two can easily handle it once it’s up. The backpack idea is a good one if you’re stout enough to carry 100lbs. Or if you’ve got a good stout friend who likes to show off!

I like this idea...build a sled so that it doesn't slide off the ladder. Thanks!

I've done the ladder - I've also done a duct lift (twice). Recommend the duct lift. I rented one cor $45.

I never noticed any wenches at Harbor Freight. Where do they keep them? 😎

You mean winches?
They have a whole section of automotive winches but the also have this little AC plug in winch.
I have an earlier version (20 years old) that I use for lifting heavy stuff to the top floor of my shop. Works great but I don't think I paid over $80 for mine at the time.
But if you really mean wenches, on occasion they are running the register or stocking the floor.
Now imma go get cancelled!
