Would you let someone borrow your RV?
Here is a question: Would you let a close friend borrow your RV? (If your insurance policy allowed it.)
I ask because this is starting to come up: I've had friends, coworkers ask: "Hey, we have that tournament at X in a few weeks. Would it be possible to borrow your RV?"
This especially applies to those Axis/Vegas owners since this is exactly the situation the RV was designed for.

I may let my son or daughter borrow it if covered by insurance but that's about it. Even then I'd have a problem knowing my son is very hard on equipment.
I personally wouldn't borrow someone's RV even if they offered it. And other family members have offered, at which point I said thanks, but no thanks. That's what renting is for.

Sorry. Did not see this thread is meant for Thor owners only. Tried to delete above post and don't see the option.

Not meant for Thor owners only. I just specifically addressed Axis/Vegas units because the situation seemed to be focused on what the Axis/Vegas were designed for.
All opinions are welcome, however...

Heck no. They have nothing invested in the asset and no incentive to care for it.
BTW, one of my SILs would see the rear view camera and think he was playing a video game and lose focus of the road ahead.

My neighbor just asked. I told him no, I just have to much invested and if I loan it to one everyone will want to borrow it. I did say I would rent it for $10,000 a week and we laughed, no harm.

NO!!
I have a hard enough time cleaning it up after we use it, let alone having to do it if I was ever stupid enough to borrow it out.
Plus having to fix what got broken and nobody owning up to it.
Which the cost of would come out of--guess who's pocket.

I have to wonder what would make someone even think of asking to borrow a friend's (or relative's) motorhome.
I could NEVER ask, and wouldn't want to anyway...too many things to go wrong, too much responsibility for another's property, etc. Just my opinion, but I would NEVER loan (or rent) my RV to anyone.

Nope. Never would. I agree whole heartedly with the above comments. Too much invested and most folks would not be nearly as careful taking care of it nor own up to something they may have broken. Also, they may not be very familiar with it and I wouldn't want them to learn on my RV.

All good points, thanks everyone.
My thought has been No as well. Just wanted to see what everyone's opinion was (making sure I'm not being selfish or something LOL--you have to check now and then).

I second all the above comments. Also, based on my years of loaning tools, money, equipment etc. to friends and family, best friends may not be best or friends after loaning them your RV. No one takes care of your stuff like you do.

Thanks Jamie. I realized the sub-forum of "Thor Owners Community Discussions" after the fact, and apparently there is a time limit to edit a post.
While I agree the smaller Axis/Vegas is probably ideal to learn on, and that the risk of damage would likely be less than if driving a big bus, I wouldn't want anyone learning or practicing on mine.
Even with family members if they do damage what are you going to do, ask them to replace an awning or something not covered entirely by insurance? I wouldn't ask my children to pay for the deductible, etc... And then there is cost of normal wear and tear. On long trips that can get expensive -- thousands.
Since you asked the question in the first place, I'm guessing you are not entirely OK with it either, so I hope the resounding agreement makes you more comfortable saying no if that's what you decide.

It is quite unlikely a loan out of my RV would happen. Though if it did happen it would most likely be a result of my offer. What I can't imagine is a friend actually asking to borrow it!

I agree with the above statement. Also like the idea of giving out the phone number to the RV rental places.
I've got too much $$ invested in my RV to trust someone else with it.

Actually I was referring to Thor's advertising for the Axis/Vegas units. They call it an "RUV" (Recreational Utility Vehicle)-- like a tricked out conversion van.

This is where I think it gets a little fuzzy: The thought is that the Vegas/Axis units are more like a "tricked out conversion van" instead of "big motorhome". Borrowing it would be as simple as borrowing someone's van (although I would disagree since it is a fully functional RV).
The funny thing is, this is exactly why we picked up the Axis: Taking the son to baseball tournaments, trips down south, and camping.
