Slides (2) wont work

Quote:

Chris,
Firts thing i did, unplug every connection, and added dielectric grease ,re attached.
No not firefly, but I feel there is another fuse somewhere im missing.
2 seperate switches, both dead? Not likely, fuse, or pinched wires is my guess.
I will go back to my 12 volt board and triple check each fuse again.

Terry

So your switches are mechanical?

If so, what wires are on the back of the switch?

Chris,
Just wire switches, with plugin terminals.
I just put electric grease on any electrical connection I see, seems to keep em dry and better contact.

Any idea where to look for the messed up wire? They both dont work so if I fix one the other should follow.

There is a relay in the line that prevents the slides from opening while the engine is running. It is a safety feature build into the coach. Look near the power center and you will see 3 automotive style relays - one for water pump, one for awning and one for slides. If that relay is bad or loose then power won’t get to the slide switch. That’s how my 2017 FW is wired. My relays are held in place with zip ties - yours may be mounted.

Now that's a great suggestion! Check the slide interlock. Could explain everything.

Should have been the first thing out of Thor's mouth.

JimO,
Yes I saw those….do you know which one?
I touched them, 1 was warm….
Just by chance, tried the awning….no worky either, same relay?
When the rain stops, I will photo them and post pictures.
You all rock.
Terry
Ps. Jim, you made my DAY…even if it’s not, I have something else to look at.

Same interlock for the awning. I think you're closing in.

THOR has wiring diagrams that have wire with color and stripe color info, connections, relays, fuses, with approximate locations on the diagrams. Mine have been very helpful to me. Go and log onto the THOR web page and download all your documentation. You will have documents in PDF format at your finger tips even on the road in the meddle of nowhere.

On my rig the slide/ignition and awning each have their own relays. The wiring diagrams I have show the slide/ignition relay as orange, white, yellow, orange/black and the awning relay as green/black, white, yellow, green/yellow. It looks like the yellow wire is coming from the front ignition and provides 12vdc. Been a long time since I looked at them but I believe the white and yellow were jumpered between the two relays.

I had to call Thor and ask specifically for the chassis wiring diagram - it was not online.

Bad news….
All relays test good
Pic #1 above with double relay, one is the ignition lock.
Test plug 85/86 12.5 volts, same as the battery under the hood.
All others tested 13.1 volts, the house battery voltage.
With volts applied to 85/86, pins 87/ 30 ohm out at 2 ohms on each.
85/86 coil ohms were between 90 and 103 ohms.

Need more ideas, thanks.
Terry

So, just to be sure, you are trying to operate the slides and awning with the engine OFF and ignition key removed?

Ted,
Yes, engine off, keys in rv door. Heck even set the e brake.
Still no 12 volts to the toggles.
Awning schematic shows fuse located up top by the end. Will look there when rain stops.
Wife reminded me of gcfi by outside tv, on my list.
I figure thor connected this little 12 volt wire in series, must find the next broken item.
Getting the fox/hound tomorrow, so that should help.

Thanks,
Terry

You mentioned a warm relay - was it the ignition relay? The 896 relays are normally open so a warm relay would imply it is energized. I believe the relay is NO when the ignition switch is in the off position. Here’s a long shot…cycle your ignition key and then go back to off and leave the key on the seat. See if anything changes including the warm relay being cool.

You should also have someone toggle the switch as you measure the voltage out of the relay. I had a bad relay, but the bad one in my RV controlled the water pump. The relays are cheep in cost so I purchased a replacement and spare on Amazon. They are automotive relays that auto stores do not stock.

Sounds like your looking for the wrong part on the circuit.
Unless you've been checking the ground part of the circuit?

My 40yrs of repairing broken DC circuits ALWAYS found that the hardest trouble to find was a missing ground!

Good luck

Thanks all,
Todays plan of attack,
Went back to starting over.
Ordered replacement relays, yep there cheap, and looked up specs on them.
1 is out of spec, 90 ohms, + or - 10%. 1 was 103, yes not much but still out. Max is 99 ohms so 103 is bad.
Will retest all again.
Will cycle the key as per Jim, as Ted always says, whats the last thing you did. I pull the rv up 12 feet.
Contacted thor, in the return call bank, waiting for a call.
Fox/hound coming today, might help.
Schematic shows 2 fuses up by the awning, will check them.
Check outside tv gfci.
Might just jumper #30 to #87 pin on relays.
Double check for power on pins #86 and #30 the relay plugs into.
Yes Jim all 3 relays are NO.Normally open.
Have a beer and
Terry

Thanks Jim,
Ok, update….
The warm relay IS the interlock as per the rapid camp schematics.
Pin 87 goes nowhere.
Pin 87a is charged in the normally open position.
At this point life should be good, BUT this relay allows power to 86,87a, and 30, thus relay thinks the ignition is on.
manually closing the contacts, all 3 have 0 ohms…a dead short.
Will wait for new one and let you all know.
THANKS very much to all.

Someone say beer time
Terry
