My first car was a 1945 MB
But it was made by Ford: not Willys.

My gosh, I'm surprised they didn't total that one out. All that torque on the entire drivetrain had to have heated everything to the point of meltdown.

One thing is for sure: it didn't do it as bit of good...
Jeeps still retain a pretty good amount of off-road capability. It amazes me that people buy them without realizing that they may require some "extra knowledge" about how to use them properly...

I would think he must of felt the drag as he was towing it?

He may have until it blew up. Then he could drive forever and never know it was back there!

That is why I have a check-list I go through everytime I hook up my Wrangler and unhook it..... just like the pilot on a plane going through their check-lists.

There are too many things to remember that have to be done in the proper sequence. It is easy to miss a step... or think you did it when you didn't. Even after going through my check-list I double-check it again!

A very expensive lesson learned!

Cool

I did a step-by-step checklist, word for word from the owner manual, with connecting on one side and disconnecting on the other side, and laminated it. We keep it in the driver's door storage pocket. We follow that list religiously. The only thing we've ever forgotten was switching on the Demco braking system one time. Fortunately that was just a short low speed local trip.

Some folks just have extra thick skulls, and nothing gets through...

Yeah it always seems to be the brand new ones that get totalled. Remember the brand new raptor that caught fire and took part of the brand new tiffin with it.

Yep, on the laminated checklists next to the drivers seat. Only thing I would add to everyone that has a checklist like myself is after you have exited the, (Jeep in my case), do a last minute double check by opening the door and looking in and doing a; steering unlocked...check, T-case Neutral...check, parking brake off...check, because when you go to climb out of the drivers seat you want to pull the ebrake and or turn that ignition off out of habit. I have done it. sitting there in the seat, set everything, and just before opening the door to get out reach for the key I just turned to unlock steering. Accidently leaving the ebrake pulled can cost you the whole vehicle when it catches fire from the heat 10 miles down the road. Another little trick for those of you with the crank up tv antennas; our old coach had one, and I had a toothpick with tiny red pc of tape flag that I kept stuck in the antenna rotate knob. As soon as I raised that antenna I would put the toothpick flag in the ignition hole. Never forgot to lower my antenna.
