Axxera Backup camera
Hello, we have a problem that's driving us nuts. We keep our Windsport 34P's Axxera radio on Camera mode to monitor our tow vehicle. The problem is, everytime we use the blinkers, the screen view switches to give a side view but then, after changing lanes, DOES NOT switch back to camera mode. It gives us the radio screen! So the driver then had to take his eyes off the road and fiddle with the screen to get back to Camera view. Any ideas?

It's designed to work that way unfortunately.

One solution that has been discussed on this forum is to add an additional monitor, either just for the rear or for that and the mirror cameras, too.
My problem with the Axxera display is that it sits too far below my line of sight. For this reason, the side cameras are worthless to me. Adding an additional monitor is on my wish list, for only the rear camera. At the same time, I might replace the camera with a better one.

My 2018 Vegas, 2 step process
Cut orange wire from wiring harness and radio will not cut out when using turn signal.
Update the firmware downloaded from the website and will then auto switch back to backup camera.

While not cheap: the idea of adding an extra monitor (and about three more cameras), has a lot going for it.
You set it up to keep an eye on your Toad; and have cameras also watching the adjacent lanes on each side of you...
You can toggle back and forth to better see what's going on around you with this setup.
(The OEM side cameras come on too late into the game; to help you decide if you should consider moving over.

Or if the Radio not playing when using the side mirrors doesn’t bother you just upgrade the firmware. It’s specifically made to correct the failure to switch back to the back up camera

I did this last week on my Palazzo. I had the fish the usb port out from behind the dash to upgrade the firmware.

Have you done this? Where did you mount the cameras and run the wiring? Any pictures?

It's not a modification that I've done: but my theory is sound.

A garmin 760 and garmin cable will do the same thing for you and give you a good GPS as well.

I ordered a quad view monitor from Rear View Safety, it’s essentially a plug and play. You can view one, two, or all three cameras at the same time. I used an adhesive mounting disc and a Ram suction mount to attach the monitor on the dash. If you don’t want to go that route, and don’t use your side cameras, you can clip the trigger wires which activate the cameras when turn signals are used.

Those side cameras IMO cause more problems than they solve. I had them on my former 41 foot DP, but still relied on what I saw in the mirrors before changing lanes etc. Don't have them on the Gemini and don't miss them.

I agree, side cameras are a waste. I can see both blade sides perfectly with the lower parabolic mirrors. The side cameras are only a distraction for me.

I use the cameras: I just don't trust my life to them...
They're kind of like "another arrow in the quiver".

Perhaps the 2018 Vegas mirrors are different as the side cameras offer no additional information for me.

On my 31W the side cameras show me exactly where the rear wheels are.

If you could adjust them for where they are aimed: they could be more useful...

The problem I have with the side camera's is that they are on a delay: Half the time I'm already over in the lane or have made the turn by the time the camera is showing anything.
Yes I know: "You really should turn your turn signal's on earlier to give traffic a chance to notice!" To this I say: "Bollocks it gives traffic a chance to speed up and get in my way if I turn them on earlier!"

I just sort of have gotten used to turning the signals on; about two seconds earlier...

When I had the side cameras on the DP, the delay IMO made them not partially, but totally useless and frankly dangerous. I fortunately had a fifteen inch screen on the dashboard, and was able to convert it, so all three images (left, right & rear) were continuously displayed. That made it a little more useful, but I still depended on what I saw in the mirrors, not from the cameras.
