I had this with our ACE. I tighten the two locks in the front. Stopped the noise.

Dave - all I can say is WOW!!..I changed out my grille this past week, went on a Labor Day Weekend trip and my RV was sooo quiet! My wife and I bought our ACE this past February and the high pitch noise was constant! Read your fix and decided to try it myself. Nothing to lose because Camping World wasn't able to fix it. This was the resolution I was looking for!!

It is confirmed for me. Just got back from a two week 3000 mile trip in all sorts of conditions and speeds and there is no more high pitched whistle. This is the fix to do.

I'm just glad to hear that the whine wasn't coming from any pedestrian that you might have backed-up onto!

New grill from Thor installed this spring. Looks just like the one from cargrills. 6000 miles to AK and back in all kinds of weather. Not a peep from the grill and the coach seems quieter overall. Thanks so much to folks on this thread.

Rattles

If I hit bumps in the road I get loud rattles some where in the area of the door , but can't figure out where it is coming from . I'm thinking about duck taping the door , have someone do it after I get in . Any idead ?

From where you sit that noise could be anything from the dinette, or near there. May not be the door.

I would also advise against duct taping the door simply for safety reasons.

Get someone to stand near the door and see if they can pinpoint the noise. If it's whistling have them pull on the handle and see it it quits. You may need to adjust the door striker plate, had to adjust mine because it wasn't tight. Also check the weather stripping around the door, don't forget the top and bottom.

Leaking Door Seals

Thank you for the advice to check the door seals, it makes sense if they are leaking then more air will be coming through other places and could cause the whistling.

I will check them and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for your time

Had the same issue. Mine was the bottom little square tin section of the screen door rattled like crazy. I caulked the tin square with black caulk. Never heard the noise again. Good Luck!!

I did the same thing. That lower panel was the worst offender. I also found that the top part of the door was hitting the outside door. I put some felt in there between the screen door and the outside door. That door noise was probably causing 80% of the noise while going down the road.

Open the doors together and just tap on the screen door and you can find out where it is hitting.

I tried the tightening of the engine door locks trick on my 2018 Thor Ace 30.2 with no luck. I guess I will need to upgrade my grill. Thanks for the tips, will post back results and pics.

Thought I was crazy

I've had that same high pitch sound as well since the day I picked up my 27.2. Only one other person "sort of" heard it. Glad I found this post, as I am a total newb in RV'ing. I want to thank all in advance for your input - even the jarhead who capped on the navy, altho being Air Force I expect the same treatment. Ooh rah and thanks for your service!!

Loco RVer, you'll find lots of advice here. Another source for advice and answers is iRV2.com. It's great site. I also highly recommend joining FMCA, and RVillage. All have been a great help to me. Good luck and Happy Trails.

Ok, I tried to be systematic about my testing and here is what I found. I have a Thor ACE 30.2. I had the high pitch squeal between 55 and 70mph.

1. Tried tightening engine locks, no sound difference
2. Tried adjusting broken slats on grill, no sound difference
3. Removed grill completely, sound was gone

So I figured out my issue was actually with the grill. So I removed it and added a piece of window screen to the front, attaching with zip ties. When I screwed it back in to my rv, the high pitch squeal was gone! Thank the lord.

Photos below of:
1. Me covering the grill
2. Close up of zip tie attachments
3. What it looks like attached to my rv (hood open for those who don’t know how it opens)
4. A view of inside the engine bay of how the grill attaches to vehicle

My real test will be next week, heading out for 1200 miles.

Quick update - this hack indeed fixed the loud squeal. So much more of a joy to drive. Going to take rv in for warranty work and see if they have a better option, but if not I will let this one ride!

Car grills has many different styles and shapes of the grills. Is one grill shape any different than another? Does one pattern perform different than another or do they perform the same and just look different.
