You don't cook on the glass so there should be no thermal cycling.

The pan he used looks fairly large in diameter in the pictures, which may have contributed to directing hot combustion gases towards and close to glass, particularly if pan was positioned fairly back. It’s hard to tell from those pictures, but I expect that under right conditions the glass top can get fairly hot. Having said that, I would not expect it to fail suddenly like that if manufactured properly.

Glad no one was injured.

really, nice to see you weren't injured. It looks like your hinges were in the up position.

exploding cover.

Was the top up and away from the cooking utensil when preparing the onions. If the glass cover shattered and glass went in several directions, I can't understand why none went into the onions that were being cooked. At least the photo does not show any in the onions. Was the gas burner turned on before the top was opened? This is strange. Could the utensil that was being used to cook the onions designed for induction, gas, or electric burners and was touching the open glass top? Bang!!!!!

Hi I have cooked with these stoves for over 5 years.
I also cook 100% and have cooked with gas over 35 years. Top always up. Burner never on prior.
No utensil touching. Onions were cooking with 10" skillet and not touching anything. Same process for 5 years.
Glass is in onions. Onions sent to garbage.
See picture

Thanks

yes, it looks like a stress or strain in the glass at the hinge must have shattered. I would think Dometic would have used a safety glass or shatter proof glass for this install. I would send this to the stove manufacturer. They will be really interested in testing the glass. I will check my attach screws and ensure no over torqueing of the fasteners.

I only cook Onions on the outside Blackstone grill, The Mrs cant take the onion smell and i cook the onions outdoors with bacon to drive other campers crazy with the great smell.

Glad nobody got injured. Easy to see how it happened. Burner heat flowing out from under the skillet overheated the glass and boom! What a waste of a fine looking pan full of onions.

Be careful out there. Some of these RV's have teeth.

I had a glass pan explode at our house, glass everywhere. my son suggested that the hot pan I took out of oven onto the counter where they may have been water droplets causing it to explode. be careful.

Windshields have a plastic layer between the glass which holds it together upon breakage.
It's not a type of glass thing, it is a plastic near a flame thing.

The glass used on that stove is tempered and made for high, but uniform heat.
The fracturing it did is to make small, not so sharp pieces so there are no
Final Destination
Type glass knives flying about.

That glass is exactly the glass to use and is basically the same glass as every window in almost every car. Except the windshield(it has the melty-plastic layer)
